In Their Own Words

His love and focus on architectural design, interiors and art set him apart in the building industry. I, as well as our entire office, always enjoy working with Phillip Clark. His love and focus on architectural design and interiors and art set him apart in the building industry. He is willing to invest in design in a way that very few builders understand. It creates a lasting and special part of the neighborhoods that he is involved in. He has always been supportive of my passion for design as it relates so much to his passion for building.

What I like about working with Phil is that he is so carefully attuned to the design process. He is always respectful of the intent. He is careful to carry it out and gives critical attention in an effort to make the project better. That is what has been so impressive to me in working with Phil.

Phil Clark enables me to be the landscape architect. He is a great facilitator to the design detail. He doesn’t do ‘I assume’ excuses that happen a lot (in the building industry). That’s what makes a lot of our projects successful. If we need a pea gravel driveway, he won’t give up on that pea gravel driveway.

The nice thing is knowing Phil is the builder — with his background, his travels, his knowledge – it’s a real big plus for me. His wealth of knowledge always pushes the envelope. He’s not putting square pegs in round holes. But details count.

Their buildings and properties are some of the best because they pay attention to details. Those are the things that people notice. ‘Their houses make our gardens look great. They’re true to their architecture.

As a builder and friend, he is the best. Having lived in a home he built in 1985, and recently having had the opportunity for him to build a new home for us, I want to say that, as a builder and friend, he is the best. His attention to detail and his follow-through and follow-up have been top notch. He came back into our first home when we wanted to make sure the HVAC in the master suite area was operating properly and without a moments hesitation, added another system at his expense. In our new home, he and I didn’t necessarily see eye to eye on the upgrade to the fireplace that was going to be built on the screen porch. To my amazement, as I was away for the holidays, I got a call from him to wish us happy holidays and inform me that a gift was awaiting us on our return. When we returned, we discovered that he had built the fireplace of his dreams on the screen porch, at his expense!! He just wanted everything to be perfect and he knew we did, too.

To this day, I still am able to call him anytime with any question or concern and get an immediate response. Thanks to him and his crew, we and our decorator feel that all of them went over the top to build something everyone could be proud of.

Phil has a strong appreciation for site and landscape design as it relates to fine residential architecture. Because of that, he’s very good at understanding and executing the design details that we produce for that type of project. It makes the process enjoyable for me because working with him is a lot more fun and easier.

We tailor our landscape architecture to reflect the architecture of the home, and the homeowner’s program elements. We try to incorporate all of this into our design process. What we design is only part of the piece. How it is executed in the field is critical. Phil does a good job with his subcontractors in doing just that.
